A seven-month grant of $20,000 for several public education activities was made in April 1989: 1.) $13,400 for a second national meeting on Women and Health planned for October 1989 which will bring together women's groups, family planning professionals and health practitioners; 2.) $2,000 in partial support of a public education campaign to change the proposed US-AID/Peru population strategy which is in its current formation limits the use of temporary contraceptive methods, emphasizes the provision of long term methods (e.g., tubal ligations, vasectomies and implants) and eliminates funding for informational and educational activities on reproductive health; 3.) $1,500 to support a bulletin on maternal morbidity/mortality as one of several activities for the International Day of Action on Maternal Mortality; 4.) $3,100 to cover overhead costs of organizing these activities.
