And then in the early ’80s, when the South African government decided to open the space a little bit and create some means of political representation for some other groups [besides] whites in the country, a real deep mobilization across the country started; and that’s when I got involved in “politics-politics.” And at that time, the question of women’s rights was highly contested, but I would say it was nowhere on the national agenda.
