Individual grant (19,500) made to initiate WHERNIN (Women's Health Research Network in Nigeria). Grant used for start up of WHERNIN activities including a panel presentation at the annual meeting of SOGON (Society of Ob/Gyns) and initial meeting of network. Germain, Jiggins, and Irvin attended first annual meeting, where papers were presented on topics such as teenage pregnancy, female circumcision and violence against women. A plan of action for the coming year was discussed. SOGON panel was excellent and well-received. Papers included an overview of women's reproductive health issues, abortion law reform, and social factors contributing to women's health programs in the North.
